| Why does MTEMC charge a $40 fee for leaving a doorhanger warning of a possible disconnection? |
| Before disconnecting a member, MTEMC employees may make a final attempt to avoid the disconnection by leaving a door hanger. It costs to perform this function. The $40 figure was arrived at through a cost study that determined the average cost of such trips at $40. Since MTEMC's only source of revenue is its members, if the member who caused the cost does not pay the cost, the other members of the cooperative must pay the cost. Therefore, the fee is a simple cost recovery measure with the intent of being as fair as possible to the membership as a whole. |
