A bird flying into MTEMC substation equipment caused about 4,000 members to lose power in parts of Rutherford and Williamson County for about 30 minutes this morning.
The bird disrupted MTEMC's Trinue Substation at 5:55 a.m., causing a short circuit and shutdown. The substation feeds parts of Rockvale, Eagleville, College Grove and areas around Triune.
MTEMC crews got the power back on at 6:23 a.m.
"We are sorry for the inconvience the outage caused for our members," MTEMC spokesperson Todd Palmer said. "Animal-caused interruptions are an unfortunate reality, but we're constantly examining ways to prevent them as much as possible."
