Bird disrupts substation feeding Cool Springs Galleria area

A bird flying into MTEMC substation equipment caused about 7,000 members to loose power in and around the Cool Springs Galleria area for 15 minutes at noon today.

The large blackbird disrupted MTEMC's Brentwood Substation at 11:58 a.m., causing a short circuit and shutdown. The substation feeds Cool Springs Galleria, much of Moore's Lane and surrounding areas.

MTEMC crews got the power back on at 12:13 p.m.

This was the second bird-related outage at the Brentwood Substation in the last two months.

"We are sorry for the inconvience the outage caused for our members," MTEMC spokesperson Chris Jones said. "Animal-caused interruptions are an unfortunate reality, but we're examining ways to prevent them as much as possible."
