A bird flying into MTEMC substation equipment caused about 6,000 members to lose power in and around the Cool Springs Galleria area for 15 minutes this morning.
The bird disrupted MTEMC's Brentwood substation at 8:41 a.m., causing a short circuit and shutdown. The substation feeds Cool Springs Galleria, much of Moore's Lane and surrounding areas.
MTEMC crews got the power back on at 8:57 a.m.
This is the second incident today involving a bird disrupting service to Middle Tennessee Electric customers. Earlier this morning, another bird also knocked out power to areas of Triune, which affected parts of Rutherford and Williamson County.
"We are sorry for the inconvience theses outages caused for our members," MTEMC spokesperson Todd Palmer said. "Obviously, this isn’t the norm. Even though animal-caused interruptions are an unfortunate reality, it doesn’t normally happen twice in one day.”
The power interruption in Triune knocked power out to approximately 4,000 customers.
