MTE Customers Care donates $60k to Red Cross for flood relief

MTE Customers Care has donated $60,000 of Operation Round Up funds to the American Red Cross chapters of Rutherford, Wilson and Williamson counties for disaster relief efforts in the aftermath of the floods.

"Middle Tennessee Electric members can know they are providing relief, comfort and hope to these hurting families devastated by the flood," said Williamson County Red Cross Chapter Director Susan Shreve. "This donation will go a long way to provide immediate help."

It is the responsibility of the Customers Care Board, which is composed of seven MTEMC members, to administer Round Up funds. Customers Care Board Chairman Doretha Wright recently announced the donation of $20,000 to each of the three counties.

This donation to the Red Cross came from Operation Round Up contributions by participating Middle Tennessee Electric members.

“The credit goes to the 70 percent of Middle Tennessee Electric members who continue to participate in Operation Round Up,” Wright said.

Operation Round Up began in November 2003 and since that time has distributed more than $3 million into the communities Middle Tennessee Electric serves.

The initiative "rounds up" members' bills to the next highest dollar, with that extra change set aside for worthy causes.
