New and transfer of service checklist

New and transfer of service requires documents to be completed at each district office location.

  • Apply for service by phone or in person - membership and service name, address and phone number, if required
  • Execute a right-of-way easement for his/her property, if required
  • Secure executed right-of-way easement from all other property owners over which the line to member's location will cross (including permission to take off property of present member), if required
  • Pay $5 membership fee, a $25 meter set charge, and an additional $50 charge if it is a new service installation
  • Pay deposit of $275 if you have not met credit bureau standards as determined by a Beacon Score as set by MTEMC. If you're transferring service, you may be asked to pay a deposit, depending on your payment history with the cooperative. 
  • Sign minimum bill contract, if required
  • Pay for underground cost (new service - primary), if required.
  • Pay additional construction costs for other other types of residential and commercial services as required
  • Have wiring approved by state wiring inspector (new services)

Appointments should be scheduled for any new home construction job where new services are to be run. Call 1-877-777-9020 for an appointment.
