Washington Youth Tour writing contest

Program: Washington Youth Tour writing contest
Grade Level: 11th Grade
Time Frame: October to mid March
Presentations: Lecture, video and printed materials are presented on subjects related to rural electric cooperatives. Approximately 72 classes presented in 15 area high schools to more than 1,800 students. Classroom presentations are made during October through February. Each student is given a packet of resource materials.
Contest: Students are encouraged to use the information they are given to write an original paper about rural electric cooperatives. Prizes are given for top papers at school, county, area-wide and state-wide levels. Each June, eleven students from Middle Tennessee Electric's service area are selected on this basis to participate with other students from across Tennessee and the nation in an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.
