Save money on an efficient home. Get rebates to do it.

MTE and TVA have partnered to provide home rebates to you through qualifying home energy efficiency upgrades. This program is designed to help you reduce energy consumption by improving your home’s efficiency, save money on installation costs, and make you more comfortable.

Home Energy Rebates Benefits

  • Get money back on your efficiency upgrades.
  • Lower your monthly energy bill.
  • Replace old systems that are costing you money by driving your energy bill up.
  • Enjoy better indoor air quality and increased comfort following certain upgrades.
  • Reduce your carbon footprint.
  • Offset the cost of unplanned or emergency repairs or replacements.
  • Upgrade to products with higher energy efficiency ratings.

How It Works
  • Step 1: Identify the home improvement you want.
We recommend starting with a free Home Energy Checkup. MTE’s local energy service coordinator can help you determine which upgrades might qualify and give you recommendations to improve your home’s energy efficiency and your energy habits.

  • Step 2: Choose a contractor.
To qualify for an MTE and TVA EnergyRight Home Rebate, you must use a qualified contractor from the Quality Contractor Network. These professionals are approved to help members with their home upgrades. We recommend getting estimates from 3 contractors to ensure you find one that meets your needs and confidence level.

Learn more about the Quality Contractor network.

  • Step 3: Complete the project
Once your home improvement project is complete, your contractor will have 30 days to enter the job in TVA’s Residential Hub.

  • Step 4: Claim your Home Rebates
Once your contractor submits your job, you will receive an email with instructions on how to claim the rebate. You have 90 days to complete the rebate claim process. Once the claim process is complete, the rebate will be paid directly to you. Typically, you’ll see a check in your mailbox 4-6 weeks after you’ve completed the claim process.

  • Step 5: Schedule a home rebate inspection
After your job is complete, an MTE energy services coordinator can come to your home to perform an optional home rebate evaluation. These evaluations vary based on the measures installed; however, the evaluation allows for an Energy Pro to ensure you’re optimizing your energy efficiency and cost savings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Any residential member installing an approved measure by an approved TVA contractor is eligible for a home rebate from MTE and TVA EnergyRight.

When your project is complete, your contractor will have 30 days to submit your project to TVA EnergyRight. You will then receive an email from TVA EnergyRight asking you to claim your rebate. You will have 60 days from the time the email is sent to claim your rebate. Once claimed, it will take approximately 4-6 weeks for you to receive your rebate.

No, not at this time. All rebates are submitted in the form of a paper check mailed to your home.

Your project must be completed by a member of the Quality Control Network for you to be eligible for a rebate. Contractors can register to be a member of the Quality Contractor Network at https://energyright.com/residential/quality-contractor-network/join/.

This inspection is not required; however, we do recommend that an MTE EnergyPro visit your home to ensure your contractor installed the upgrades correctly. While there, MTE can also perform a Home Energy Checkup to show you other ways to improve your home’s efficiency.

Your rebate will not be impacted; however, we will work with your contractor to correct anything found to have been incorrectly installed.

Yes, but you will need your landlord’s permission to participate. They’ll need to consent to TVA EnergyRight’s program guidelines, and they will be the ones who receive the rebate.

Yes! Landlords are eligible to participate.

No. To be eligible for one of these rebates, you must replace a unit where the primary heating source is electric.

You are welcome to use multiple rebates if they’re for different upgrade categories or various products from the same category. For instance, if you’re interested in a new HVAC system, air sealing, and insulation, you could claim rebates for each of those categories. Or, if your home has multiple HVAC units or water heaters, you could claim a rebate on each unit or appliance upgrade. Otherwise, you can only claim one rebate per upgrade. You wouldn’t, for example, be able to claim two rebates on one HVAC system.

Most energy efficiency upgrades should start saving you money immediately. Major upgrades like a new HVAC system or heat pump water heater will impact your monthly bills more than others. Even if you don’t notice a significant change in your bill right away, you may experience the benefits of increased comfort or a more balanced temperature in your home.
